Dear Dr. Friedman,
Can drinking too much black and green tea have a reverse effect and cause hypertension and stress?
Looking forward to trying your tea when it is available!

Hi Bob,
Drinking too much caffeine from any source may cause a temporary increase in blood pressure and stress the adrenal glands. However, there is no evidence that caffeine causes hypertension. I recommend sticking with two cups of black tea or three cups of green tea per day to gain the medicinal benefits of the tea and avoid too much caffeine.

Hi Gwen,
L-theanine may have activity in modulating the metabolism of cancer chemotherapeutic agents and ameliorating their side effects. That means that it helps some chemotherapeutic drugs have a stronger cancer-fighting effect, while limiting their undesireable side effects.
The most researched cancer inhibiting chemical in tea (that has been found to affect cancer itself rather than the drugs that treat it) is called EGCG. Longevity Tree has a health report coming out on tea and its strong health benefits, including cancer prevention, what teas to try, and how to brew them. It will be available in about a month, so stay posted.
